With a name like Asia one would expect the group to be prog queens and kings however, it's actually a pretty straight forward rock band. The group started out as a quartet, and they recorded two albums - 1979's self-titled debut album, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a wide musical background, but their greatest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an ode to the traditional sextet style and an even more consistent and powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. Its edgier sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity on drums, and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's work was sharper, more intricate, and less derivative than previously recorded efforts.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded an Amsterdam live show that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The group released their new studio album just a few months after, and went on a world tour to support it. In 1998, Paich and Lukather started searching through old demos and tapes in search of a new record featuring songs that had never been recorded before. The band featured a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
